Klyntar Featured Location!
A brand new location just dropped, I'll tell how how it will change the metagame!
Klyntar is a super exciting new location! For the next 48 hours, we’ll have this location in 40% of our games, so we have a great opportunity to learn how it affects deckbuilding and gameplay!
Our SYMBIOTE comes out as a 1 energy card! It’s also worth noting that this location’s effect does not destroy your cards, so it won’t work with cards like Bucky Barnes and Nova.
Klyntar merges cards in the order they are played into the location. So if you have Typhoid Mary as the last card in Klyntar, your other cards will be merged first with the -1 power effect applied!
It’s important to know that during a featured location, if you’re playing a synergy deck that doesn’t synergize with Klyntar, your deck will be a fair bit weaker. Since you’re more likely to get a location that doesn’t work well with your deck and you’re less likely to get locations that give you a big synergy boost.
I can’t quite think of a deck that would synergize with Klyntar unless you count decks that play Killmonger and Shang-Chi.
Card Boosts
Ebony Maw and Attuma
Ebony Maw is nice if you can get him down into Klyntar before turn 3. Though Ebony Maw and Kylntar share a common weakness in Killmonger.
Attuma works really well with Klyntar, letting you play a 10 power card for 4 mana! Though watch out for cards like Storm and Juggernaut, that might make you Attuma destroy itself!
Killmonger and Elektra
Killmonger has so much potential upside with Klyntar. If you can avoid merging your cards into a Symbiote, Killmonger can destroy your opponent’s Symbiote! No matter which deck I play, I’m going to try and play Killmonger!
I’ll also have to think twice about putting too many 1 drops in my deck because I bet my opponents will be playing Killmonger!
Elektra is getting the Glow Up she has always deserved! Those daggers she throws are going to destroy HUGE Symbiotes.
Strategy
Klyntar doesn’t synergize with cards that care about card quantity or care about the resource of having a card in a location. Also, Klyntar gets rid of the ongoing effects of cards you had at that location. So cards like Spectrum and Cosmo get worse.
Patriot decks also get a fair bit worse, even though Patriot buffs the Symbiote, Patriot decks care more about the quantity of cards they can buff.
My plan for Klyntar is to avoid playing into it and exploit my opponents who do play into it with Killmonger and Elektra.
My Deck!
I just have one deck for now, and it is inspired by my most recent pull: Absorbing Man.
I like this deck because it does a good job of playing with Elektra and Storm, both of which are strong cards in this featured location. Also, decks that play Cosmo get a little bit worse, and that is greatly appreciated by all Wong strategies.
If you’re not lucky enough to have Absorbing Man, I’d play Black Panther, if you don’t have him (he is a Series 5 card after all), I’d play Gamora or Aero.
It’s also possible Killmonger is significantly better in this location, in which case I’d play it over Elektra. Iceman is too good not to play, even if it doesn’t work well with Killmonger.
One small note, Absorbing Man is bugged with Wong currently and his On Reveal will only trigger once. Thanks to The Human Spider for letting me know! I hope this bug gets fixed soon! I still think Absorbing Man is worth playing in this deck though!
