Iโm a huge fan of cats, so Iโm really excited to play with Zabu. I also love the flavor of Savage Land so much, all the variants look really cool, the featured locations are going to be dangerous, itโs going to be an amazing month to play Marvel Snap.
Iโve also started a discord server to discuss Marvel Snap and my written content! Click here to join.
Because of that, I also got to play with a card Iโve been absolutely dying to play with, Wong. I also recently completed my Series 3 collection thanks in part to the generous paid โค๏ธ subscribers of this newsletter.
Weโre also expecting a balance patch to drop in the coming week. So I wanted to whet your appetite with some new decks that might spice up your life while we wait for the patch.
Electro Wong
I really had a good time playing this deck, it can do a lot of powerful things and has quite a few mix-ups to get you to some 4 and 8 cube victories. There were some other Electro decks running around with Leech and Leader, I thought that deck was quite strong too, but it was more of a known quantity and my opponents were good at retreating when they were beaten.
This deck has some nice combos with Black Panther and Arim Zola on an empty lane:
Wong + Black Panther + Zola = 34 or 66 power on the other 2 lanes.
Black Panther + Zola + Odin = 40 power on the other 2 lanes.
This is a really strong combos, Iโd say they come up once every 10 or 20 games.
When I was building this deck, a key innovation for me was the inclusion of Lizard, Thor, and Maximus. Being a Wong deck, we really appreciate have initiative, and cheap high power cards are an absolutely great way to get initiative. If you have Initiative, it doesnโt matter if your opponent has Aero or Cosmo, your Wong combos are going to go through.
I also really liked Wong in this deck as a nice fallback plan when you donโt have Electro. The other Electro decks felt a little lacking when I didnโt draw the namesake card.
Vanilla Zabu
This was my first Zabu deck last night. Itโs a pretty basic idea, Iโm trying to put a lot of power into play with beefy 4 drops. I liked that I could make Zabu on 3, Moon Girl on 4, Sera on 5, then play a bunch of 4 energy cards for 1 energy each on turn 6.
I theorycrafted this interaction before Zabu came out. I think this is a fine approach to the deck, but itโs a little weak if you donโt have Zabu. And this plan is a bit weak to leader.
Zabu Ongoing
Oh man, I have missed playing with the Ongoing cards. The main idea with this deck is the following: make Zabu on turn 3, make Sera on turn 5, then you can make Wong and Spectrum on turn 6 giving +4 power to all your ongoing cards!
Wong is at his best when you can play him as late as possible. Being able to hold Wong until the last turn makes it that much harder for your opponent to disrupt your combo.
Iโm really hoping to open L U K E C A G E soon, because I think this deck would be greatly improved by adding Luke Cage and Hazmat. Iโd really like to have more than one On Reveal effect in my Wong deck. Iโd also like to play more 4 drops with Zabu, maybe I can fit Warpath, Darkhawk, or Kazar in here.
Surfer Zabu
Iโve been playing with this deck for awhile, and Iโm very excited to see what Zabu adds to it. Zabu is a big improvement in this deck, the card I had in it before was Mr Fantastic, which was medium. It also enables you to play Wong later which makes it more likely that your combos donโt get disrupted.
This deck can put some serious power into play, every session I play with it I have games I put 80+ power into play.
